Can I submit a script now?
No. This is only an expression of interest based on your short synopsis. Please do not send full scripts at this stage.
Can producers submit a project?
No. We are only accepting applications from writers and directors. Producers should not apply.
Do I need professional experience?
No. First-time creators, students, and emerging voices are welcome to apply.
Can I apply as part of a team?
Yes. Collaborative applications are welcome.
Can I submit more than one idea?
Yes, but each idea must be submitted separately with its own form and synopsis.
Do I need a showreel or previous work?
It’s useful, but not required. A strong idea and personal connection to the story matter more than past credits.
What kind of stories are you looking for?
We’re looking for live-action or animated short films that explore migration in a fresh, emotionally grounded, and visually compelling way.
Can my story be in a language other than English?
Yes. Any language is welcome, but selected films must include English subtitles in the final version.
How long should each film be?
Final runtime should be between 8 and 14 minutes, including credits.
What happens after I submit?
If shortlisted, you’ll be contacted after 3 October. You’ll receive a detailed guidebook and be invited to submit a full script for final consideration.
How many projects will be commissioned?
We plan to commission 4 to 5 short films as part of the In Between anthology.
Will I get support with my script?
Yes. If selected, the Square Elephant team will work closely with you to develop your script and support you through pre-production.
Who owns the film?
Square Elephant will retain the IP for distribution purposes. You will keep full creative credit and can use the film for festivals and your portfolio.
Do I get paid?
There is no payment during production. However, Square Elephant will cover all production costs. If the anthology is sold, profits will be shared with the original writer and director.
Please share a short synopsis of your film idea (under 500 words). Focus on the emotional core, the characters, and how it connects to the theme of migration or being “in between.” This is not a script, just a strong concept that helps us understand your story.
Once you submit your short synopsis, our producers will carefully review all entries. If shortlisted, you’ll receive a detailed guidebook that outlines the project’s tone, theme, and expectations. You’ll then be invited to submit your full script.
After reviewing all final submissions, Square Elephant will select 4–5 projects to produce and notify the selected filmmakers.
